Mile End Deli: Sharing Classic Jewish Comfort Foods with Birmingham

Get excited, Birmingham! We visited Mile End Deli last night for a pre-opening event and it was AMAZING!

Food: A+

We started with the Mile End Platter: a large platter of corned beef, smoked turkey, and brisket slices served alongside rye bread, an assortment of pickled vegetables and two mustard varieties. This dish alone was more than enough for two people to share and every single item on the platter was delicious.

We also tried the Smoked Meat Poutine: house-cut French fries topped with a brown gravy and cheese curds and brisket. This dish was also delicious!

For our entrees we tried two sandwiches: the prime rib sandwich and the chicken schnitzel sandwich.

The prime rib sandwich was a combination of thinly sliced prime rib, topped with grated carrots and may served on an onion bun. This was my least favorite part of the meal; the ingredients were certainly quality but it just didn’t suit my preferences.

The chicken schnitzel sandwich was out-of-this-world-amazing: a thinly cut chicken breast fried to perfection topped with maple bacon, pickled green tomato, lettuce and a mustard-mayo served on an onion bun. This sandwich stole the show with its perfect combination of savory/sour flavors.

We left with a huge bag of leftovers and were stuffed to the brim. Come hungry! We will definitely return to Mile End Deli!
