Bawarchi Indian Cuisine made quite an impression on us this weekend. Upon first waking in we realized that this wasn’t like other Indian restaurants in Birmingham. There was no lunch buffet and the menu had some unique offerings, such as a large selection of Dosa, which we discovered are Indian crepes that are more common in Southern India. We based our entire dining experience on the recommendations of the owner; letting him order for us.
We started with the Chicken 65, an appetizer. This dish was piled high with flavorful, although not overly spicy, chicken and satisfied everyone at our table. This was a great way to start our meal. We noticed several other surrounding tables with orders of the same appetizer.
Next, we sampled the vegetable samosas. These delicious pastries filled with Indian spices and vegetables made quite a meal themselves. The mild and cooling dipping sauce served alongside were quite refreshing.

For our main entree, we had chicken tikka masala, a classic. The generously-served, creamy tomato sauce paired perfectly with the heaping mass of freshly baked garlic naan. Bawarchi’s version contained pieces of bell pepper and onion, as well as chicken. This dish was more than enough to share, expecilla after having appetizers.

Perhaps the most intriguing dish we tried was the Mini Chocolate Dosa, a kid’s menu item that our youngest diner feasted upon. There’s absolutely nothing “mini” about this massive crepe with chocolate sauce delicately poured over the top. Perhaps more of a dessert than a meal, it certainly satisfied our youngster and we all had a bite of the crunchy, sweet confection.
We found the service to be outstanding. The staff was attentive and full of recommendations and everything came out very quickly. Yelp users agree that the food is fantastic:
Being Indian, I like the fact that the food is absolutely flavored and yummy. You won’t be disappointed, your stomach will be happy !

While some Yelp users offer friendly warnings:
The curry is described as a Bawarchi spicy sauce and a hint of coconut. It was delicious, but be warned it is SPICY. It will put hair on your chest.
