Saw’s on the Side popped up in December on Oxmoor Road in Homewood. A spinoff of Saw’s BBQ, this local pub offers everything that their next door neighbor doesn’t: drinks and fried food options and brings old-school vibe to the area, offering beer, wine, and cocktails amongst the backdrop of a tavern-like atmosphere. 90’s music dominates the sound system overhead. This bar isn’t a “scene” that requires a blazer, but a welcoming neighborhood bar that is open to all.
Renowned for its ribs and smoked chicken, Saw’s BBQ has been recognized as one of the best barbecue joints in America from publications including: Men’s Journal , Garden & Gun , Sports Illustrated and Cooking with Paula Deen.
The pub offers a large selection of fried foods, including their popular “Sweet Tea Chicken” sandwich and a “Fried Green BLT”.
The sweet tea chicken sandwich is absolutely amazing: a crispy fried chicken breast settled between two buttered buns with pickles, topped with white sauce.
The pub offers happy hour specials that vary by day. The pork rinds, served with bbq sauce for dipping are a fantastic snack to pair with happy hour drinks.
Yelp users agree that the Saw’s BBQ on Oxmoor needed a menu boost:
The Homewood location doesn’t have as large of a menu selection as Avondale. They have either a chicken or pork sandwich ($6.25 each) option and you can also get that in a combo which comes with a side and a drink ($10.50). Whereas the Avondale location also has Sweet Tea Fried Chicken Sandwich ($7.69), Fried Green Tomato BLT ($6.25), SAW’s Burger ($7.99) and Carolina Burger ($8.99 which includes Cheeseburger+pickles, onions, mustard, chili, & slaw)
We’ve found the staff to be very competent at drink making, as well as good conversationalists. This business is a fantastic addition to Edgewood. We fully anticipate becoming regulars.
The bar is open Monday through Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
