The 14th annual Gumbo Gala, the annual fundraiser for Episcopal Place, a nonprofit organization that provides affordable independent living for low income seniors as well as adults with disabilities, kicks off tomorrow at Sloss Furnace. The Gumbo Gala annually raises $100,000 for Episcopal Place. 36 cook teams have registered to compete in the Birmingham’s Best Gumbo Competition. Tickets, only $20, include unlimited samples of gumbo and live music. There is no charge for kids 10 and under. Gumbo Gala is the largest gumbo competition in the South.
“Gumbo Gala will happen rain or shine this Saturday,” said Jamie Whitehurst, Development Director.
Gumbo Gala is a family & pet friendly event. Guests will enjoy delicious samples of gumbo, entertainment, live music, kids zone, and ice cold beverages. Numerous other awards are given to cook teams, including a “People’s Choice” award. Live music will be performed by Margeaux and the Cat’s Meow.
“It’s always ranked as one of Alabama’s based foodie events,” said Whitehurst. “We are ready to have a great time for a great cause.”
