Homewood Bagel Company opened during the Christmas holiday on Homewood’s Central Avenue in the former Icing on the Cookie storefront. Business is going well and the bagel shop has been selling out of bagels almost daily.
Ginny and Joe Leavens opened the business after hosting pop-ups at Icing on the Cookie and developing a local following. A bagel mural wall, featuring the bright blue signature Homewood Bagel Co. logo in all shapes and sizes designed by @amdbirmingham, greets customers upon walking in and provides the perfect opportunity for a bagel-themed selfie.
The bagels are fantastic: soft on the inside with a deliciously chewy crust, but Homewood Bagel Co. offers more than just your standard bagel with cream cheese. Bagel sandwiches, a pizza bagel, a birthday bagel and a lox bagel are all available. The shop’s cinnamon rolls have also been a major hit with locals. Numerous cream cheese varieties are available, as well including: cinnamon sugar, veggie, funfetti, and loaded, to name only a few.

The pizza bagel is filled inside and outside with pizza sauce, cheese and pepperoni. The 10-year-old was more than satisfied, although he did leave with a pizza-stained face.

For the more sophisticated palate, the lox bagel is a fantastic option. Cream cheese, smoked salmon, capers and red onions adorn your choice of bagel (we went with the everything bagel) for a perfectly satisfying meal.

For the traditionalist, a bagel sandwich is a great option. Pictured here is a sausage, egg, and pimento cheese (added) bagel.
Homewood Bagel Co. is open seven days a week from 6:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and is located at 2907 Central Ave Homewood, AL 35209. Check out their menu on their website.
